Today, Liverpool City Council have announced that they are unable to continue supporting the government’s Big Society initiative.
In a letter to David Cameron, reported in the Echo, council leader Joe Anderson explains that the government’s cuts have seriously undermined the ability of community organisations to improve the quality of life of residents.
His letter concludes: “I have therefore come to the conclusion that Liverpool City Council can no longer support the “Big Society” initiative, as a direct consequence of your funding decisions.”

This comes hot on the heels of criticism for the Big Society from Phil Redmond, who supported Mr Cameron at the launch of the initiative last year, reported in the Guardian here
As I haven’t noticed much activity from the initiative to date, I wonder whether this will this have any effect on local communities and third sector
