France, Family and Flaking-out

After a miserable, rain spring/early summer, it’s been great to get away on holiday to super-hot France*. This year we went en famille to celebrate my step-father’s 90th birthday with a special meal out.

We stayed in a lovely gite:

with a great pool and view:

We ate at the Ferme Aux Gives (a restaraunt of the famous Michele Gerrard):

And damn good it was, too!

On the way back to the UK, we stopped for a couple of nights in the pretty medieval town of Colmar, Alsace. Despite the more gloomy weather, it was a great place to wander around, eat and drink.

Then we came over on the Dover ferry and spent a couple of nights at the Royal Hotel in Deal, in one of the first floor balcony rooms (the Wellington Room) – wonderful!

All in all, a smashing holiday.

*Although I heard it was hot at home, too – typical!
